W3C Issue 37 is tracking how AI agents executing payments will impact the web's technical and economic foundation, as the current Payment Request API was not designed for non-human principals. New web standards are urgently needed for cryptographic agent identity, delegated authority, and machine-readable audit trails to enable AI-driven transactions.
