Healthcare AI for Automation or Allocation? A Transaction Cost Economics Framework

This research applies a transaction-cost economics framework and a large language model to analyze healthcare work at a task level, identifying coordination frictions. It reveals that clinician roles exhibit substantially higher transaction-cost intensity, primarily driven by information search and decision-related coordination burdens.
